My name is Janet Hailey
Stevenson. I have lived in Nebo almost my entire life, so there was
never any question when I became a teacher where I would want to
teach. I am married to Doyle Stevenson and have four great children.
My children attended NES from kindergarten through the eighth grade and
always enjoyed their experiences here. Now, to my satisfaction, two
of my grandchildren attend Nebo Elementary.
When I decided to attend college, I was 35
years old, had four children ages 8-18, and most everyone I knew thought I
had lost my mind. After 4 years of balancing a family and
schoolwork, I finally accomplished my goal of becoming certified in Elementary
Education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Ed
grades 1-8. Even though I student taught in the second grade under
Mrs. Geraldine McCartney, (who was a wonderful role model), I much prefer
to teach the older age children.
My first year I spent teaching Special
Education at Nebo/Fellowship. After that, I began teaching the 8th grade
and stayed there for seven years. The next three years were spent
teaching the 6th grade. This past year we decided to try to teach
block scheduling for 6th-8th grades. Currently I am teaching
Language Arts for grades 6 through 8. I plan to retire from here when the time
comes. I love to teach and I love my students and co-workers that I
share problems and pleasures with each day. I suppose you could say
that my motto about teaching would be this:
IT'S NOT THE HOURS YOU SPEND
TEACHING, BUT THE TEACHING YOU PUT INTO THESE HOURS.
