Our school is located on the Northwest side of Catahoula Lake. In 1803, land grants to Kerr Routh began this settlement. The name "Catahoula" is believed to have derived from an Indian word which means "beautiful clear water." The Choctaw Indians referred to this lake as "Beloved Lake" or as they would say "OKKATAHOULA"....

...Mt. Nebo church house was also a school house. The first school was taught by "professor" Lias Williams in the middle 60's. Teachers of a later period before 1900 were Solomon Goodwin, T. W. Robertson, Moise Browning and A. L. Plummer. The Nebo School District was the first in Louisiana to vote taxes for maintenance and support.
